The Fallacy of the Inconsequential Person

THE WOMAN AT THE WELL

Let’s talk about the person that doesn’t seem to matter. They are written off by society, marginalized, and deemed “inconsequential.” They may have less or be of a lower socioeconomic status. This marginalized person sees the true colors of others through how they are treated when others believe they are lesser. But what if I told you this person does not exist in my eyes? I believe we all matter because Jesus loved us all. In this 8-part series, I will share examples of God showing and giving men and women value. However, before we jump into the example, I want to explain why The Fallacy exists in the first place.

When Jesus was asked which of the 10 commandments was the most important to follow “he answered and said, ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself.’ ” (Luke 10:27). If the world followed these two laws the inconsequential person would be a fallacy in everyone’s eyes as well. There would be no need for important social movements such as BLACK LIVES MATTER. In Jesus, there is no place for racism.

The Savior of the world seeks even those considered unlikely candidates.

In John 4, we see such a case. Jesus engages a woman full of guilt over her life’s decisions at a time she was not expecting.

1. A Life of Shame turned into a life for His Glory.
In the early hours of the morning, the final man was probably sneaking out of her
house. What would the women say about her if they saw him leaving her home? Not
much, they already knew she was a prostitute, and she had become a local celebrity.
Her name remained on the lips of gossipers, some of whom she had no idea existed.
She had lost every sense of self-respect. No one thought she could have gotten any
better. To religious folk, it was impossible to believe that such a woman could be of any significance, for they detested her.

The woman frequented Jacob’s well at noon on purpose. She scheduled her day
when they were no people to avoid the pain of shame. You can imagine her initial
reaction when she saw and heard Jesus, a Jewish teacher, speak. At the time, it was
socially awkward for a Jew to talk to a Samaritan publicly, let alone a rabbi speaking
with a Samaritan woman on spiritual matters; being a Samaritan woman and an
immoral woman would have automatically disqualified her from hearing the good
news, yet Jesus does not exclude her. And He doesn’t reject you either. Jesus, full of
mercy, took the time to explain the gospel to her.

It is Written…

7 A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.” 8 For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food. 9 Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans. 10 Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”

John 4:7-10 NKJV

Her conversation with Jesus is an example of God’s unconditional love and purpose
for all people.
In Jeremiah 1:5, God responds to young Jeremiah’s doubt with,
“Before I formed you in your mother’s womb, I knew you.” Dozens of such biblical
images remind us of the vivid truth that, ‘Nobody is useless in the hands of God.”
God seeks out all the people just like He did the Samaritan woman. In God’s eyes, no
one is too far gone. God divinely orchestrated their encounter, for this wasn’t the
regular route the Jews took to Galilee. The disciples were absent, and there was no
other people near the well, indicating God’s meticulous plan to have a private
conversation with the woman. It was necessary because an important woman was
stranded and in need of assistance. And unbeknownst to her, the entire community
relied on this woman’s testimony to repent and turn to Jesus.

The Ultimate Author
We can introduce Jesus to any person who struggles with self-acceptance and esteem. However, reception on our end is the tricky part, especially when society has labeled us “too far gone.” When the woman believed the words of Jesus, her pot got heavy both literally and metaphorically. Before she felt empty, but Jesus filled her longing heart with everything she needed. He filled her with healing, self-esteem, and love. He gave her a new purpose- a divine purpose. For our souls are restless until we find peace in Jesus. My old slogan was “If your soul is restless this is where you can find peace” before changing it to “Where the inconsequential person is a Fallacy.

Consumed with a newfound way of life, she ran to the city and shouted, “Come and see!” A woman whose dignity was diminished became a force that none could withstand- even those who talked ill against her. By meeting the ultimate author her story forever changed. He knows the importance of everyone when no one else does. When faced with the choice to listen to the voice of hope or despair, choose hope.

Your Season

“There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens”
(Ecclesiastes 3:1).

There is a season for everything and God is always on time. God has plans with what we are to occupy our time with, “the God-given tasks” for our lives. (Ecclesiastes 3:1-10). He is never early and never late. In this season God wants to activate a prophetic gift in your life. We are fertile soil for God to plant his seeds of blessing. For he will activate His prophetic vision for our lives, but first, we must have faith. This post is about prophetic gifts that lead to understanding divine purposes and problem-solving anointings. In the next post, I go into detail about how I came to find mine.

While a physical gift is tangible and given by family, friends, and acquaintances, God’s gift to us is intangible. Your gift is what distinguishes you from the crowd and can even bring you before great men and women. A person is not limited to only one gift. God has made some people custodians of many gifts. That is why we find some displaying exceptional skills and abilities in different areas of life.

How To Discover Your Gift?

Everyone has a gift. It might yet be discovered, but it is somewhere deep down in you, waiting to be explored. Everything you need is already inside you.

Some people are lucky enough to have discovered what they are really good at early enough and start using them, while others will have to do a little more digging before they would be able to strike the gold buried in them.

You can use some of these proven ways to discover your gift if you are one of those struggling to find or identify it. Here are three of them:

  1. Ask God

He is your creator. He knows you better than anybody else. He even knows you more than you know yourself. He knows the gifts, talents, and abilities he has ingrained in your DNA that will distinguish you from everyone else. So, go on your knees in prayers and humbly ask Him why you’ve been created. Ask for God for your purpose and he will reveal it to you (Matthew 7:7).

2. Ask Yourself

This step is crucial in discovering your gift. Seek a moment of quiet introspection. Look inwards and ask yourself serious questions like, what is my passion? What do you I really enjoy doing and would mind not being paid for it? What do people appreciate me for the most? What problems do people always bring to me to solve? If you sincerely answer these questions, you’ll discover one or more gifts God has given you.

3. Ask People

Sometimes people, especially your loved ones, know you more than you know yourself, or they see in you what you cannot see in yourself. So, they can know your strengths and weaknesses and point them to you if you ask them. So, take a moment and discuss with your parents, siblings, and friends and ask them to identify what they believe you are really good at. Their answers might be a light-bulb moment for you and provide the clue you’ve been looking for.

Cultivating Your Gift

Your gifts are naturally in a raw and unrefined state. Therefore, you need constant practice to refine your gifts and hone your skills. The place of diligence and hard work cannot be overemphasized when it comes to mastering the gift God has given to you. Gifts and talents are simply not enough. What makes gifts meaningful and worthy of being rewarded is the level of mastery you have over it. Think of your gift like raw and unrefined gold still covered in dirt. At this stage, it is valuable but not as gold that has passed through fire and the skillful hands of a goldsmith. Your gift can only be valuable to you and society if you practice and master it. Without practice, your gift will not be valuable enough. Practice boosts performance, and performance boosts reward.

What Your Gift Does

“A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.”

Proverbs 18:16 (KJV)

Your gift does two things according to Proverbs 18:16. First, it creates room for you, and second, it brings you before great men. Kindly note that only the gift that has been cultivated can produce these two results.

  1. Your Gift Creates a Room For You.

Creating a room means creating a space where you will function here on earth. It means your gift creates opportunities for you to do something meaningful as your contribution to the furtherance of humanity. It also means your gift creates a platform for you to make your mark on the sands of time by being a solution provider to the problems troubling your community, nation, or the world at large. Because your gift is special and unique to you, the room it will create will be the one only you fit into. You will be a round peg in a round hole because you will possess the qualifications to thrive in the space you are in. When you are in the room your gift creates for you, you will flourish and prosper easily. The things people struggle with will come naturally to you.

Think of David and Goliath. Only David could kill him. And he used tools he already had instead of something out of his element. David was successful because he did not try to be like everyone else.

Therefore, you owe yourself the obligation to not only discover your gift but to know if the room you’re occupying synchronizes with your giftings.

2. Your Gift Brings You Before Great Men

The second thing your gift does is to bring you before great men. This means that a gift that has been refined and perfected can elevate you to the highest point of life. It does not matter the social status’ level or how highly placed you are in your current position. There are certain people God has placed above you to bless you because of your gift. These are the great men and women of this world.

Your gift is like a ladder; you utilize it to climb up to where great and influential people are, and once you get there, they will offer you much more value in exchange for your skills and talents.

Your gift will open for you the door to the palace, where you will wine and dine with the king and be rewarded with great treasures for what you offer.

A king here does not necessarily mean a man sitting on a large throne, putting on a big golden crown adorned with a flowing robe while holding a scepter in his hand. Kings refer to influential, wealthy, and rich people who can afford to pay you what you really are worth. They are industry gatekeepers. They hold the keys to inner chambers where only a few are allowed to enter.  The passport you need to access these inner rooms where great men and women are is your gift. Your gift is the special license that permits you to go inside.

Afterthought
God loves diligent people. Proverbs 22:29 confirms that a man who is diligent in handling his gift will stand before kings and not ordinary men.

The Reflection

When I look in the mirror I see a woman who despite all pain and persecution still understands that she is loved and is triumphant.

When I look in the mirror I see a woman who smiles even when she is crying.

I see a woman who never walks alone.

I see a woman who had the intent to resign, but knew that sometimes it’s better to just quit and walk away whilst still moving forward.

I see a woman.

In The Reflection, I see a woman who is child-like and still needs her Father to save and help her daily.

I see a child who is loved by many. I see a daughter who stands still and waits for her Father.

When I look in the mirror I see someone who likes to get lost in the moment because she wants to give it her all RIGHT NOW! I see someone who now lets tomorrow worry about tomorrow.

When I look in the mirror I see a creation who is worthy, I don’t see a job, a degree or title, but rather I see a daughter of The King.

I see a woman who now laughs without fear.

I see a woman who is not only blessed, but also blesses others.

I see a woman who thinks, and thinks, and thinks– but also a woman who likes to stop thinking and just be. A writer who watches a family of three Southern Grey-headed Sparrows fly into an arbor as she hopes in the backseat of her parents car; an Aunt quietly singing praise to The King as she practices patience alongside her sleeping nephew; a sister waiting for her brother to come home. And although for a moment this woman felt worry. She stops. She looks at the sparrows and trusts in Him. The trust fills her lungs with breath again and the softest melody of laughter pours out and fills the air with healing fruit.

I am a woman whose grief is ALWAYS overcome by Love.

I am Vickiana. I am Vickiana Supriana.

Speak To Your Dry Bones

One of my favorite sermons is by first lady Milagros Nuñez from the book of Ezekiel.

She says Ezekiel means, “‘God will strengthen’ and if you read the book of Ezekiel you will find God had to strengthen him. The purpose of his book was to speak a word to an exceedingly sinful and hopeless generation, but through his prophetic ministry, he attempted to bring them into immediate repentance and into confidence into the distant future. So he in turn taught six points:

  1. God speaks through human messengers even in defeat and despair.
  2. God’s people need to affirm his sovereignty.
  3. God’s word never fails.
  4. God is present and can be worshipped anywhere.
  5. People must obey God if they expect to receive blessings
  6. God’s kingdom will come”

In Ezekiel 37:1-14, Ezekiel is in the middle of “a valley of very dry bones.” Which is odd considering, a valley is normally filled with water. When God showed Ezekiel the valley of dry bones, God told him to do something– prophesy. In other words, he had to open his mouth and speak. The bones were not going to come to life on their own and that’s why his part was so important. God did the work of putting the bones together and covering them with muscle and skin, but the bones would not live unless Ezekiel prophesied. His obedience caused the dry bones to come to life. So,

“Then he said to me, “Speak a prophetic message to these bones and say, ‘Dry bones, listen to the word of the Lord! This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Look! I am going to put breath into you and make you live again! I will put flesh and muscles on you and cover you with skin. I will put breath into you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’”

Ezekiel 37:4-6

In this season of the pandemic, fear has been silencing a lot of voices. This is not a new strategy for the enemy but in this season the stakes are raised. Fear is all over and instead of speaking what God wants us to speak, we have been verbalizing fear. But as we saw with Ezekiel, the Lord wants to bring to life the dry bones in your life. But no ordinary words will do the trick. You need to speak His words. Notice that the Lord gave Ezekiel the words to speak.  “Then he said to me, “Speak a prophetic message to these bones and say, ‘Dry bones, listen to the word of the Lord!” And He has given you His words to speak which are in His word. Now is the time to speak His word over the dry bones in your life because He wants to bring them to life.

It’s being said that, the Word of God spoken out of our mouths is as powerful as the Word being spoken by God Himself. The silence must come to an end. No matter how impossible your situation seems and no matter how great the giants appear to be begin to speak out what God has told you to speak.

Speak the words He has given you in the secret place.

Remember Lazarus.

He had been dead for four days by the time Jesus reached him. All hope of him surviving had been lost and to everyone, it seemed like Jesus was too late. There was nothing that could be done but to bury him and that’s what happened.

Jesus responded, “Didn’t I tell you that you would see God’s glory if you believe?” So they rolled the stone aside. Then Jesus looked up to heaven and said, “Father, thank you for hearing me. You always hear me, but I said it out loud for the sake of all these people standing here so that they will believe you sent me.” Then Jesus shouted, “Lazarus, come out!” And the dead man came out, his hands and feet bound in grave clothes, his face wrapped in a head cloth. Jesus told them, “Unwrap him and let him go!”

John 11:40-44

But as Jesus spoke out, he prophesied, to the dead Lazarus and he came back to life. For the impossible to happen, Jesus had to speak out.

He shouted out with the authority He had been given by His Father.  For the dead bones to come to life you need to speak out His Word. As sons and daughters of the God Almighty, you have the authority to speak to the dead situations in your life.

Do not let fear keep you silent any longer but prophesy.

The time is now to see the manifestation of God’s power and glory in your life, in the people around you, in your state, country and world.

Declare His word and see the dry bones in your life come to life.

God bless you.

Give Thanks to God

Listen while you read

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you”
(1 Thessalonians 5:18).

The month of November is known for giving thanks. I believe gratitude should be a daily activity rather than solely an annual tradition. We may be thankful for temporary things, but true gratitude is gratitude to God and it honors Him. For when we are grateful to God, “we acknowledge he exists and our dependence on him. When we are thankful, we recognize that God exists, and we are acting on the reality that His life is the very source and” meaning of ours. “True thankfulness recognizes our total dependence on God and stems from realizing that everything going on in our lives and all we have is the product of God’s sovereign control, infinite wisdom, purposes, grace, and activity (2 Cor. 4:15).” God is strong enough to move those stubborn mountains in our lives. So I will give thanks to God when I have more than enough and when I do not because he is more than enough and knows what I need.

Additionally, be grateful to God because scripture tells us so (Psalms 100:4, Thessalonians 5:18, Colossians 3:15, 17). As it not only honors God but destroys depression, bitterness and hopelessness. There was a time I struggled with depression, but my depression was defeated by God. Because in God I found JOY. Happiness and joy differ in the sense that happiness is for a fleeting moment, while true joy comes from God. Thank you, God, for a second chance and for your neverending love.

One of my favorite songs is Praise Him In Advance by Marvin Sapp. Pray to God and thank him for things he has done and has yet to do. Praise him in advance and confuse the enemy.

So God I give you thanks for… your word, your faithfulness, breakthrough, deliverance, my family, a career in education, and the many things you have yet to do.
